I found the best way was to be in Turkey, get away from the usual tourist spots and simply talk with people.

The Turks are a very friendly people and I've found them to be very welcoming. If you can find someone who has the same level of basic English as you have of basic Turkish, just sit and drink tea with them for as long as possible, exchanging words and correcting each other as you go. If you're like me, you'll remember those words far more easily than through any formal learning. And you'll get the spoken element pretty much perfect.

I also bought a tape course from Ebay, but you have to be pretty disciplined to use those.

BTW, be sure to post how you get on and what works for you. I imagine many people would be interested to see.
