Advice on redanduncy

Hi

Need advice on redanduncy. I am currently employed and have been working with this comapnay for 22 years. The job in UK is been made redundant and our brach in europe have offered a position. The question is will I lose my right to redundancy if I do not accept this position, as it is a change of work location. The package is also not similar in money terms. The Europe brach is offering me much less then what I was earning in UK.

Another question: The comapany has recently been taken over and when the previous comany had made people redundant they received 2 weeks for every year worked. When the new company took over they said that the new terms would be equal or better then previous. But now I am told that the new company will only pay the bear minimum. Where do I stand on this issue?

Thanks for your help.

Point 1 - you won't loose you redundancy as the offer isn't reasonable alternative to 2 points - location and job

Point 2 - do you have anything in writing that states that the redunacny terms when you were taken over would be equal or better than the 2 weeks per year. and if so since then have you been issued with a new contract stating you'd only get minimum

Point 3 - check this, but I believe that when you are redeployed there is a (statutory) month's trial period. If at the end of this time either your employer or you decide that the new job is not suitable, you are entitled to take redundancy - I believe on the same terms as you were offered before the job 'trial'.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • nothing in writing regarding redundancy terms. Probably will have to settle for minimum.

    Anyways thanks for your response

As the company have a European branch, have a look at your original terms of employment as it is not uncommon for the standard terms(or seperately negotiated ones for that matter) in companies such as this for people to have a term that says they are willing to move around, hopefully you don't have this as it would mean you'd be in a take it or leave it position. musician is correct there is a four week trial period, can be longer iof both aprties negotiate it.

Relocating to another country would probably still be regarded as too far to demand that someone should move. It would be unfair to insist on that, whatever the contract said. It would be doubly unfair to expect someone to move for less money. So do not feel that you have to take the move.

If you feel that you would like to try it out, you could see what they would do about paying for your stay in the other country while you tried out the job - and then decide that it didn't work out and take the redundancy package.
