Example of following strict protocol?

  • Use the "first aid in the community" example - it borders on relevant to the new employers business, and may imprint on their minds that you have relevant experience (eg you may have to talk someone through doing CPR while waiting for a parmedic to attend)

You have been providing the first aid training in a way that has been laid down in nationally agreed ways, presenting to an agreed programme, checking learning in an agreed way, reporting any concerns to senior trainers etc

When looking for how you follow protocol, think about what you would be doing if you didn't follow it - (waffling, running late, making up your own examples, teaching things that aren't on the syllabus, mumbling, using a mobile, letting trainees pass when they are sub-standard, failing to issue certificates etc etc) - it may help you see how and where you follow protocols well

    Good luck
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
  • The safeguarding procedures and policy with your voluntary work would have been strict - it's how you reflect on it in your interview. If you refer to it as informal it's perhaps not the way to go. You could however highlight the need to report any safeguarding concerns immediately, show an awareness of your limitations in handling this as a volunteer, by stating that you followed policy and procedure in documenting what was said etc, reporting concerns to your line manager, etc etc, importance of attending group
/individual supervision etc. Awareness of data protection, limitations of confidentiality etc. If you didn't actually have the need to follow procedure in relation to safeguarding concerns though then I would use another example - if you're asked to elaborate you don't want to be stuck. The first aid example above is good.
  • Thanks very much, everyone. I will just need to think deeper into this as I need to be able to talk in detail about it.

Surely you have had a role where you have had to follow guidelines on money handling for example?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
