I use apples I would usually eat raw-so when used in an apple crumble no need to add any sweetners as they are sweet to begin with:)

As above, how do you get over the dryness?

Add some liquid before cooking, or use a mix of bramley/eating apples.

I usually use eating apples for my crumble and i can't say i've noticed it being dry. I also use a pear if i have some and blackberries so maybe that helps.
  • I love apple crumble and do a healthier version that includes wholewheat flour and oats in the crumble topping (along with a little butter, cinnamon and brown sugar, but really as little as I can get away with). You can also add nuts or seeds to give the crumble and added bit of crunch and nutrients. I think traditional english crumble topping is pretty awful - I've always loved the oaty crumble topping and it's just a bonus that it's healthier too :)

I did weightwatchers years ago and my crumble was my favourite dessert because I could have a proper portion and it was really low points.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • I don't use sugar in the fruit, but the crumble I make with Benecol margarine. So it's lowering our cholesterol when we eat it, at least!

Is it really? by how much do you think?
