Sending Parcel Abroad - I'M GOING MAD!!

Sorry but I think I am going absolutely crazy! I just bought some clothes for a Friend who moved abroad some years ago (Tukey) and was going to send it to him.

Last year I sent him a pair of shoes that cost around £8 from the post office to send which I thought was a good price.

But for some ludicrous reason, every courier service I have looked at, including the post office want AT LEAST £60-£100 to send the same sized package! ARE THESE PEOPLE MAD?

WTH is going on? I tried all sorts of dimensions, weight sizes etc just to check its not related but all the same results!! :(

Any advice?

How much does your parcel weigh - are you sure you are not inputting a silly weight (i've input kgs instead of grammes before now).

A parcel up to 1kg (so slightly heavier than shoes) sent standard airmail would be £7.82 with Royal Mail

Nope checked, double checked, triple checked.... Any weight upto 5kg shows the same prices. Dimensions are the same story. 30x30x30 50x30x50 same price!
  • Why don't you send them Royal Mail? are they over £46?

Royal Mail don't quote the 'same prices'....there is a price depending on the weight.

2kg is the max for Royal Mail. What sort of shoes weigh 5kgs?
  • Are you putting inches instead of CM?

Yes I am confused why the last time you sent shoes it was £8 (meaning they were under 1kg) but now you are saying something the same size is 5kg? I think you will struggle to send something that heavy cheaply. After 2kg the price rockets. You may find it cheaper to split it into separate packets?

It would probably be helpful if you posted the exact weight and dimensions of what it is you are trying to send.
  • I've already checked royal mail. Anything upto 2kg = £14. So basically prices have doubled since last using them. I don't think I'll be able to squeeze in a pair of shoes and some clothes without breaking the bank.

Does anyone have any tips? I was thinking on separating them into smaller packages but it still works out fairly pricey. Plus, even if I went 1gram over the 2kg limit on a single package I'm fooked.

    Well... a shoe box... probably 40 x 25 x 20 + wrapping.

And another shoebox that I was going to put the clothes into.

Actually, I was planning on simply combining the two into a bigger box but the prices are murder!

The shoes are size 15 Timberland's, so fairly heavy. I haven't revived the shoes/clothes yet I just ordered them. I thought I'd checked on some prices assuming it won't be more then £15-£20 but how wrong I was.
