P45/P46 plus JSA and student loan payments confusion

Handed in P46 to employer on Friday, but received P45 in the post same day, and also a letter about JSA. Which is just typical as I was delaying handing in the P46 waiting for the P45.

The letter about JSA states "about your JSA claim", then goes on to remind me that JSA is taxable, and states that I have not received JSA this tax year. The only reason I can think is it was a joint claim and it was paid into my partner's account.

As I thought I had claimed JSA and this was taxable, I ticked the appropriate box on the P46, in addition to the student loan payments box. The P45 I have does not have a cross in the student loan payments box. I guess this could just be because I have never made any repayments to date and/or not worked previously?

Will my employer already have the correct tax code from the P46, even though I ticked the wrong box? Or is it worth giving them my P45 on Monday (if they can still use it)? Also if the P45 is used, I presume I just need to inform employer that I should be making student loan repayments?

Many thanks :)

I'd give in the P45. As to the student loan, I'm not sure, maybe enclose a letter with the P45 to the effect that as per the P46 already given in you do have a student loan outstanding.

Have you had any salary payments yet?

No payments yet. I understand the 12th is some critical date in terms of them getting bank details (in order to pay at the end of the month), hence why I chose to stop waiting for the P45.

Ah from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/payroll/day-to-day/student-loan.htm#2 it seems HMRC would otherwise send employer a form once wages go above the threshold.
