Agency terminated employment contract

I just received a letter from one of the employment agencies with which I am registered.

Here's the story:

I registered with them just over three months ago and in that time they have managed to get me one booking. I called them every other day to enquire if there's anything but there never was. I kept up my phone calls for almost two months but then got bored with the same negative response.

Last week at about 11 am I got a call from my temp consultant who asked if I was able to go to a booking asap, that it would be for "today to hand over, and three days next week". I told her I was unable to go as I was on my way to a prior arrangement. I didn't tell her it was way too short notice but it was. In the past she's called me up asking if I would be available for work? could she forward my CV? Can I start asap? etc. Only for her to email me at the end of the day to apologiese because the client went with someone else. She's done that several times. That's the back story.

Today I received a termination of contract because "part of my contract requires that I must stay in contact and attend assignment". Therefore, they are terminating the contract.

Can they do that?

I don't care about the termination of the contract really because they were useless anyway. I'm bored and just looking to see if I can make a bit of noise for the hell of it.:)

How much were you paid for remaining in contact and attending assignment? I am guessing nothing. So on the whole, I don't think there is a contract except as and when you get an assignment.

So as I see it, there is no contract to terminate. And her rights to terminate that contract are moot.

That's what I don't understand: They weren't paying me whilst I wasn't working and I kept in touch every few days. One assignment was all they managed in almost three months but because I was unable to accept this (very short notice) contract they're throwing their toys out of the pram. Screw 'em I won't even waste my energy on them.
  • Not that anyone cares but I thought I'd give an update all the same.

I called them this morning to ask why they'd terminated my employment. Turns out it's an automatic letter their HO sends to temps after 3 months if they've not worked for a while. Or some such. A bit like those bank letters that are automatically generated

Basically I should disregard it as I'm still on their books and available for work as far as they're concerned.
