how to politely refuse an offer for BIN?

Hi

How do you reply to messages asking 'whats the buy it now price?' or 'how much do you want for it?' or 'how much for cash?'

These are questions for things that are for sell by auction. I get them nearly everytime I list something and never know the best way to respond or if I should just ignore the question?

  • Just send them a short message saying sorry but you are going to let the auction run. works for me and never had anyone complain
  • If I get that question and my item's got quite a few watchers, I normally wait until someone bids on it, then reply and say 'sorry but I can't add a BIN to the auction as it's already got a bid' - saves the hassle of coming up with an excuse! If I wanted to put a BIN on I'd have done it in the first place... or I come up with a really big price and if they agree to it then good, if not they won't bother replying...
  • I had this problem last night - someone offered me less than my start price and wanted the item posting for free. A story was also given how little Johnny was going to a party next week and desperately wanted to give my item to the birthday child.

I politely declined by saying I had lots of interest so it was only fair to let the auction run. I did say I would post out Monday if she decided to bid - just hope I sell it now.
  • I just say thanks for their interest but you're just going to let it run, and wish them luck if they decide to bid. x

Am I the only person happy to end early for a decent figure?

  • Nope - I'll happily end it if the offer is what I'd be happy with. Never used to be but these days, more than happy.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Yes but half the time these people who offer never end up paying....what's that all about
I just say "Thanks for your interest but it's auction only"
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

I always say I prefer to let the auction take its course.
Anyway if you add BIN the price has to increase and the punter thinks you are on the make.
And has been mentioned previously they often dont bother buying if you do add BIN.

  • I once asked a BIN price for a friend. Should had told her to ask herself but was being helpful.
It was starting price of £5 asked for BIN of £15. Seller agreed and added it to auction. Friend decided she would just bid and let it run it's course as she was convinced she would get it cheaper. I felt like complete tw@ for asking and probably ended up on blocked bidder list.
It went for just over £30 and friend didnt win it, even bidded over the BIN price she asked for. Felt very happy for seller.

    Thanks for the replies,
The things is most of the people asking are offering the starting price - or LESS!? two of the things with bids and someone has still asked if we will end them and sell them to him for less? I don't get why anyone would agree to do that.
Just sent 17 messages all saying the same, good old copy and paste lol
