Matched betting..how much do you make?

Reading diaries it seems quite a few of you are now matched betting. I looked at it a while back and didn't understand it. Lately though I can't get rid of that nagging feeling that i'm missing out on a good opportunity to earn some extra money. Pigsback and surveys great as they are I don't earn much from them and so wondered....

How much you were earning a month from MB and how much time that involved?

many thanks

  • I suppose the returns are dependant on how much you are willing to play with in the first place ? Similar thing with the old fruit machines. you needed to hear the £1 coins falling b4 they would pay out the jp. now the bloody things are run on windows xp and are scammed. I saw someone a few weeks ago put £2500 into a party time machine(500) jackpot. what does he do as a job ? Work part time in a pound shop !!!!

As I understand it Matched betting can happen where:

    1. different companies have different rates on the same event - and these rates mean if you bet both ways you either make no loss, OR you win money.

    OR.

    2. A company offers you a free bet as an incentive to join, you bet half the money on one option (Man Utd win) and the other half on the opposite option (Man Utd Lose).

In other words, you income is limited to situations where 1 or 2 apply.

Hi, just to clear up an inaccuracy on matchbetting - it is not 'gambling' in the accepted sense of the word although there is a small element of risk involved:

Here is a very simplistic version of match betting - it is very important that all the helpful threads on the gambling introductory board are read and understood before trying it.

Bookie is offering introductory bet eg £25 if you bet same first.

You bet £25 on an outcome with bookie; you bet £25 on the opposite outcome with another bookie. You lose one bet and win another and are a usually a few pounds down due to odds/commission etc.

So lets say for this hypothetical bet you have £48 of your initial outlay left having lost £2

You now have your introductory bet of £25 credited to you account. You then repeat the process:

You bet your £25 free bet on an outcome with bookie; you bet £25 on the opposite outcome with another bookie. You lose one bet and win another and are a usually a few pounds down due to odds/commission etc.

So lets say for this hypothetical bet you have £48 from the sum of the two bets left having lost £2

So in total you have bet £75 of your own money but gained £96, making a profit of £21.

Obviously things can go wrong so read the threads very carefully. Plus this is probably as accurate a description as a picasso face is to a real one ;) It's the general idea only.

My husband is doing very well from match betting although the returns decrease as the free bet amounts decrease.

Make sure you join quidco etc too!

I started mb about 6 weeks ago and have made around £450 in profit. I fully expect this to slow down now though, having done the easier offers and I have set myself what I hope is a realistic target of £50 a week in order that I can pay off my Egg card within 12 months.

I enjoy matched betting but I did spend about 6 weeks reading and re-reading the intro guide first and making sure that I really did understand it. Although it is seen to be risk free - the biggest risk is through human error so if there is something you don't understand, don't be afraid to ask and definately don't start until you are confident that you know what you are doing. Also, don't even think about it 5 mins before kick off, or when you are tired etc. Mistakes are bound to happen and can wipe out your profit instantly!

The good offers are always around and when there is a big sports event such as cheltenham festival there are even better offers, so don't worry about missing out - the cash will still be there for you when you are ready!

please, if anyone wants to do matched betting,

make sure you read the intro guide and follow the rules very carefully,

i'm sure mrs slim's intentions are very good,

but you never bet on opposite outcomes,

you always back and lay the same thing.

i'm sure someone who can explain it better will be along soon.

I don't actually think this is the place to explain it in anything but the simplest of terms hence I have expunged all jargon from my very simple explanation :)

I hope my explanation would only a) encourage anyone interested to go to the correct board and b) prevent misinformation regarding what it actually is.

I can only repeat - mine is the simplest of explanation to give a gist of what it's about and certainly not a definitive post to encourage people to do it and certainly not to take my post as a starting point there is a proper board for that

Edited to add: I'm still a bit worried that despite all my warnings sured seemed to consider my post was a definitive explanation and so there may be others like him so I'm nagging once again to say that there is a proper board to investigate matched betting - any definitions, explanations or advice given on this part of the board will in no way be as good as reading up on the right board and may lead to avoidable costly mistakes.
