Can I take my golf umbrella in??

Does anyone know?

We are there for a really long day tomorrow - we have murderball at 9.30 and swimming at 5.30 so we will be outside for the middle of the day. We was there yesterday and it was roasting and there is no shade, my son has disabilities and could not cope with the weather at all so I was thinking we could sit under it with a drink etc....

Does anyone know whether we will get it taken away at security?

Ta.

Don't see why they would confiscate it. Last time I was in the Olympic park I saw someone putting two kids' mini scooters through the x-ray machine. No trouble at all!
  • Listed as 'restricted' here - there might be a problem in the rugby as obviously it would be very annoying for other spectators if you use it there. I guess you might have to explain that you only want it for the Park

  • Just spoke to a volunteer on the train on the way home from work and she said it should be okay and that she had seen umbrellas being used as sunshields today (although this was outside of the park). I hope I didn't destroy her faith in humanity when I explained that you might not get them into a football ground in case they were used as weapons.

She actually said that if something goes through the scanner without a problem this week then things are pretty relaxed. That was my own experience the other day when I offered to take my computer out of my bag and was told not to worry about it. My dad also took freezer packs through which I had been worried would fall foul of the liquids rule.

My OH says Golf Umbrellas are a no-no due to the pointy end and his friend works in the park. I wouldn't risk it unless you don't care if it gets taken away. We saw metal cutlery that had been confiscated!

Thanks for the replies, never thought of checking the list.

I am going to take it and explain that we want it for a sun shield for my son and see what they say. The worst they can do is take it off us, it only cost £3 from Sports Direct but I am not sure what else we can take in to shield him when we are walking or sitting around. I always carry his letter and disability card anyway. I will go to information when we get there and see if they offer anything to help us if not. There is so little shade there and everything is really exposed. We ended up leaving early on Thurs as he just could not cope with it anymore.

ETA. Hmmmmm. Might just pop into Smiths in KC and see if they have any brolleys for sale. I think it'll be too early for the shops to be open.
