Need help with job ideas

I need some ideas of what jobs I could do. I am nearly 40 and no childcare responsibilities. I have a degree in social policy, but my skills are very limited. I cant drive. At the moment I work in a call centre, but do not want to stay in this kind of work. I am not comfortable using public transport at night, so nothing that involves night/late working. I am happy to work weekends. I cannot stand for very long periods as I have an issue with my leg, but would be ok with an hour or two at a time.

I am very happy and easy going and am very good with people. I would love to do care work but seems they all want you to work nights. I can use a computer, but would say my use of Office packages is very basic.

I recently applied to my local supermarket. They said I was a great candidate, but turned me down as a general assistant because of my leg. I was offered a till role, but as it was till 10pm had to turn it down due to transport issues.

I am bright and willing to learn, but feel a bit stuck at moment. I need to find something full time soon as me and my husband are splitting up, but at the moment i cant afford to support myself as my job is only part time.

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • Try going through a website like gumtree, reed.co.uk or jobsite and do a search but only enter a location - no job related keywords. Then you can see everything that's available in your area and see if there's anything you like the look of. Even taking a peek at boards in post offices might prove insightful.

The problem with us giving you suggestions is that the roles just might not exist near you.

    Hope you find your inspiration!
