Please excuse my "ARRGGHHHH's" This morning, but Royal Mail are getting worse, Not only now do I have frequent postcard boomerangs, but this morning I had envelope entries returned too!!
I write at an angle, adding a phone number at the bottom and they still get sent back. :sobs:
Just ARGHHHHH!!
Any tips at all please?

Ouch! That would hurt. I know you said you write at an angle, but can I just make sure we're talking the same thing, when I used to do postcard entries I would write their address in the usual place, usual size, etc. Then I would turn the postcard at a 90 degree angle and write my return address that way, so it would be written along the short end of the postcard.
Also, it might be worth trying to do it all on one line with no gap in the postcode and inside brackets? If all else fails, what about writing the numbers in your postcode in words - that would surely work. So instead of BN13 write BNthirteen.I am brave, I am bruised

I write along the small side, maybe I just hit a very unlucky patch.
I plan to write a clear TO and FROM next time. See how I get on. xxWishing you all good luck!

I hate to say it, but I don't think that will make any difference. I remember reading about this a while back. When they come back it's usually due to the automatic reader that scans for the postcode.
I had another idea that might just work. Make up little return address labels on Word but use an obscure font, in italics. Then just literally cut and paste them sideways onto the card. Think of it like making up a captcha. If it's hard for a human to read, then I doubt an auto reader will be able to.I am brave, I am bruised

I think I am mostly annoyed because some of them have short end dates, and by boomeranging to me, I miss the draw. Thanks for the ideas - I am going to play with some of the fonts tomorrow, otherwise do what my partner suggested, that is printing off the address label, and handwriting mine on the back. In hope the machine will read the clear, printed address first.Wishing you all good luck!

I'm sure I read somewhere that if you write something under your postcode it confuses the machine and it gets spat out and has to be hand sorted so there's less chance of the wrong address being read. Having said that, you'd think the flippin' postman would realise what had happened.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I've been entering postal comps for about 4 years and have only had 1 or 2 returned. I always use white DL envelops from tesco's (42p for 25). I write the address as normal on the front (landscape), I then write my address on the back top with the evnelope in portrait. When I write my address I only move down a line when I run out of space (this is so hard to explain lol) and always put my post code and telephone number together, a bit like this..
Answer:
A Baker, 111 High Foot
Road, Town, County,
AA11 1AA Tel: 07777 777777JUNE: Wine - DVD :j0 -
I tend to put "Thankyou" at the bottom of my address, postcode and tel number too. I also write 'To' and 'From' and put the postcode and town I am sending it to in bigger letters to the rest of address.
I got some postcards from cinema and noticed on the top it had boomerang written on it. I havent used them incase they get sent back too.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -
Touch wood we very rarely get any back at all. I always put a big swiggly Z line under the post code on my home address. My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

luckily enough i've very seldom had any boomeranged,
i print my own & try to find a picture to suit the comp to place on the front of the postcard & just use the back for the details, sometimes decorate the back with sticky smilies:rotfl:(ooh i love smilies:o) &/or sometimes glitter pen for the to & from, if i've not time to print any i use cut out cards/etc as ppd explains in her postal thread
