Never though of entertainment, not much really, stream films for free and font get magazines/papers. Get the occasional takeaway.
I don't want to include my partner as my debt not hers. The £200 for food isn't replicated.

I do make a little extra cash building website's from scratch, but it is erratic.
  • A pretty obvious suggestion but have you tried to transfer the barclays debt to 0%?
Next step - contact them all to inform them that you are struggling to pay and what deals can they offer on interest rates / agreeing a monthly figure?
Contact CCCS to chat through your options too - if you can reduce or stop interest you've got a better chance of clearing this lot. Whatever happens it'll be a long haul and your credit rating is likely to be affected.
You really need to include your partners income etc on the SOA as we can't see who is paying for what - a lot of suggestions will be irrelevant. One way or the other she'll be affected by your debt - you may be tackling it mostly but sadly your debt will be her problem if you don't get on top of it - you have a mortgage together ( I assume).

  • hi zx9r..... <<< and is this bike related  if so :j

massive high 5 for starting the journey, me too! :T:T

take a look at my sig, not to different to my cards so dont be to scared by it all, so so so many fantastic peps on here to guide us through.

i can understand where your coming from with split/joint debt, in the same boat with my fella but lucky for me 'my' debt was tackled 10+years ago interest frozen and paying pittance a months until our joint debt is clear.

from scanning SOA you work similar to my bro/sis in laws, they still split living, im different so hard to compare, my partner and i went joint on everything at an early stage.

i would suggest having a think about some of the following, this is what helped me make the decisions i have in the past..

how long have you had these debts
    >>having them for years its obvious sign your not getting very far at rate your paying and wont get far in future, think i worked my out be 30+years at the rates i had on cards!!!

do you pay only the minimum's each month
    >>again, this wont get you far unless v.low or 0% rates and pay extra, literally every penny counts even just that extra £5-10 makes a difference

have you ever missed any payments
    >>if you constantly missed payments then history will be pretty tainted, if it is then i would consider looking into approaching c/card company's for payment help along with the other free services all detailed in the forum for guidance in freezing interest etc, this will only help if your not sucked into suddenly freeing up excess cash each month and spending that. you must think logically and put what you save straight to clearing. im not sure how this work when your meeting the payments though. i was 'lucky' enough to have a wage that didnt come anywhere near covering so they had no choice really. on the other hand if you pay on time and have a good credit history it mught be worth thinking how you can approcah it without affecting that.

Look for the cutbacks in your spending, if £200 is your food budget only then this is quite high for 1 (ive budgeted me & my food lovin fella to £200 a month together and ive done it with change!!)
can you get this down anywhere, what does it actually cover?

Try breaking these allocations down and see what the forum can come up with, how do you spend your money, on card all the time or cash? Your allowing £450ish a month to spending that im sure you can tightening and shift around

im certainly no 'expert' but have struggled with various forms of debt approaching it every way possible for past 12yrs so i can put the life experience hat on!!! There's prob 1000's of tips & ideas on the forum for tightening the belt along with just asking..

best of luck and keep us updated and ask away :T

It is indeed bike related :-)

I havnt missed or been late with any payments :-) I. Working out a budget that will allowe to get this payed off as soon as humanly possible ! Time to get sorted out I think !
  • high 5 to the ninjas then, ive a zxr400 (no licence yet tho) and the fellas had 2 zx6r's, a 1000 gixer and now a ktm duke :)

if you've kept payments up then yes, i would keep them going and trying to skim as much off as poss.

have a look for the c/c pay off calculators online, sure theres links on forum somewhere. works it out for you by either paying highest interest or lowest balance, snowballing etc first.. gives you breakdown on how long it will take.. really good tool

your in a good position having low rates, most of mine we in the 25-30% apr's so painfully high. recently transfer to 0% on some and kicking the cr4p out them now to clear.. its a long haul struggle but worth it!

Hi do you not pay anything to those items you put £0 against. Do you and your other half pay £200 each per month for groceries, if so that's huge!

I suggest you keep a diary of expenditure - you obviously spend a lot more than you've put down at the moment. Write down every single thing you spend money on for a month at least to give you some ideas. What happens to the money your SOA says you should have left at the end of the month?

What did you spend the money on originally - do you have anything you can sell from it.

    Good luck.
  • I'd agree with the above... although in theory I should have money left at the end of the month we were hemoraging money and didn't know why... it was all the wee things that soon add up.
£200 for shopping and £100 for petrol doesn't seem enough, are these accurate? Do you buy your lunch? How often do you have a take-away dinner? Things like that. I'm not getting on at you, this is from experience of being the king of underestimating!

The other thing to consider is trying to make an extra £10 per day selling old stuff on eBay, doing overtime, walking/cycling to work once in a while. It soon adds up!

Is that how much car insurance costs youngsters these days? I'm glad I'm old. :o
