Holidays after maternity leave help please!

Hi,
I had a baby last November and I'm going back to work this coming November. Before I had my baby I worked full time hours, when I go back I will be working 4 days a week and only term time. I have accrued 22 days holiday since being off and I asked yesterday in a meeting with my boss if this could be added onto my maternity leave, so I would end up going back in December instead. He said he isn't sure and that he might want to pay me for the holidays and I go back in November instead. I work in a school and as I will only be doing term time I won't get 'holidays' like I use to when I was full time, so taking the holidays later on after going back won't be possible!
Hoping that makes sense so far, my boss said he will let me know what he wants me to do. Do I have no choice on taking my holidays or getting paid for them? I've been told conflicting information and I'm not sure where I stand. I'm hoping he lets me know soon as I need to sort my start date out for child care and I don't know if I'll be going back in November or December.
Thanks for reading.
