    Re: Your Car
When I declared bankruptcy last year, I owned a Vauxhall Corsa, worth about £400.As I am registered disabled , I was assured that the OR would not take my car.I do not work because of my incapacity, but living in a small village ,with very little bus service, the car was my lifeline.Oh how wrong that information was, but the OR did allow me to BUY BACK my own car for £200, which my family paid for.Dont take anything for granted.

Once again, this highlights the inconsistencies that appear to be encountered with different ORs.
I agree that we should NEVER take anything for granted, however I do believe that we should be entitled to a reasonable degree of consistency in the way that we are treated.
I would be inclined to apeal gainst this decision - pettyminded is not a strong enough word to describe it.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi, when we went bankrupt the OR told us that if the car was not an expensive one, ie worth thousands and was needed for getting to and from work they would not be interested at all. which luckily for us they were not interested as my hubby would have lost his job.

Hi, We have 2 vehicles hanging in the balance. A car and a motorbike. I hope i don't get a nasty OR. We both need a vehicle and in total they are both together worth under a grand! Yet i hear such varied stories of people being allowed to keep vehicles worth thousands, not even needing to purchase a cheaper motor, then poor people having to buy back their old banger that's a lifeline! My advisor at CAB has also said that he has known the OR take away cars that are no longer running, that are effectively scrap!
This shows just how inconsistent the system is and i know that when i talk to the OR on Tuesday i'll be expecting the worst, cos then things can only improve..hopefully!
  • well we have seen are advisor at cab who said our car should be safe! your right very inconsistent info.

how did you get on lucy locket? have you spoke with your or yet?

  • Hi MID,

    Thanks for your interest.

Yes we managed to keep both vehicles in the end thankfully after being told to expect to lose the bike. We were surprised to hear we could keep both, i don't know what changed! It just goes to show that you can't anticipate anything with the OR!

I stuck a post on here somewhere about the result with OR. It was a really traumatic few days, but i really feel like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders now! Plus it get's the OH out of his mammoth sulk in the cave lol!

Apparently we were in Thursday's paper, but i didn't even get it..i didn't see the point in being upset further about the whole thing! Nobody's pulled me up about it yet lol!
  • oooh thats the scary thing as well the paper! ive got my date this time next week friday ill be in court, feel sick, apparently in our court you go in at 10 am, have to wait around and see the judge at 1.00 and then you go across to the receivers office? im hoping thats right cos hopefully will get it all sorted in one day. i dont know if they put us down at one address or both addresses or just new address lol! not sure which is best really.

  • the rules are supposed to be, you can only keep a car if essential for work or you are disabled and rely on it for getting about. The value is not relevant, because the OR is personally liable if something happens as a result of the car so they have to deal with it.
