Job credit check

Hello folks,

Looking for some reassurance.

My wife has been offered a job in a financial position (not banking etc but does see peoples card details etc)

They have made an offer done a CRB check etc all fine.

They now want to run a credit check (it was in the job description so no arguement there)

She has a poor/average score, having checked experien and equifax today the following shows -

No defaults
No bankruptcies
No CCJs
No CIFAS

Positives -

on electoral roll for a year, no issues with aliases or anything of the sort.

All accounts show as green except for - Next which shows 2 months in arrears (actually paid in full 2 weeks ago but not updated on the sites yet, I know this can take a month) Credit card 1 month in arrears (again paid and up to date but not updated) No previous payment problems on the accounts except the CC which was 1 month late once before.

Her score it seems is lower currently due to the 2 months arrears which will soon drop off and the fact she is using 90% of available credit (we are paying it back mind!) Also the credit card is under 10 months old (bad form missing two payments we know but due to job changes etc it couldnt be helped and has never gone further into arrears)

She is freaking out thinking she will fail, to my knowledge most employers look for the bad stuff first - CCJ, Default, Bankruptcie, CIFAS flags. The rest shouldnt cause issue should it?

  • That doesn't actually sound too bad. It's not the strongest record but it's not the worst by any means. They're looking for indications that a person is in such a financial mess that they might commit fraud to help sort it out. Your wife hasn't ran up the full amount of available credit and isn't struggling to repay her obligations. I don't see a problem here.
  • That is what I think as well.

I think once the card is over 12 months old and missed payments fall off the file her score will probably go back to the top end of average (maybe touching good)
  • She passed!
  • Congratulations to her!!

These plus IVAs are the main things they are typically looking for.

Some harsher ones will also look at late payments but your more looking at front line banking or accounting for those to be a concern
