I haggled in Dreams over the weekend. I got a bed but decided, even before buying, that i was not going to buy at the RRP.
Saw a bed I wanted for £800.00
I asked if any money could come off, and was given quids off, just like that.
I pushed again, and had the delivery charge taken off
pushed for more, and got a further £10.00 off and free asemble.
this brought it down to £759.00
I asked if we could round the £9.00 off, so it was £750. asst would not do it, said there PC systems would not allow him, ask to speak to his manager, got the £9.00 off.
In total had £88.00 taken off, not bad, worth haggling withTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
Ernest Jones (also applies to H Samuel & Leslie Davis as all owned by the same parent company) will allow customers to haggle 10% on all full priced items over £250 or more. Sometimes this applies to items under £250 at managers discretion.
I know this as I have just finished working for their group...! 10% discount was something that I was allowed to automatically give out if someone asked and it was a full priced item over £250. It makes no difference whether cash or card.
Also, it is worth pushing for more as certain items, platinum etc, can sometimes be up to 20% off allowed.
Look out in store for 'event weekends' as they can often give 10% on the lower priced 'fashioned items' too as long as you pretend it is for a wedding or whatever other event they are currently running! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. My sister and I run an independent high street shop, and hagglers are the bane of our lives! People get annoyed when we won't give them a discount, even when they're only buying one item and our prices are as low as we can possibly have them! One woman was trying to get a necklace and earring boxed set (which was only £6.50 to begin with) for half price!!!
It looks like you're only targeting chain stores here- but please do bear in mind that haggling with smaller businesses can be frustrating, fair enough if you're buying a few items, but just think about it first! It is hard enough as it is to make any money these days x0
