Claiming Back Costs From Northern Rock

:eek: IN JULY WE CASHED IN OUR ENDOWMENT POLICY AND CHANGED OUR MORTGAGE TO A REPAYMENT MORTGAGE - CONVERSION CHARGE 75.00. WE WERE ALSO CHARGED 990.00 FOR MORTGAGE REVIEW FEES. DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF I COULD CLAIM THESE CHARGES BACK?

£75 is a service charge and you would have been notified in advance for this charge and you would have agreed for the charge and service before it took place. It is a valid fee and you cannot claim it back.

There is no way you were charged £990 for mortgage review fees. I expect (and I'd put money on it) you were charged £250 in mortgage review fee and the remainder is a product fee for the product you've switched onto.
In neither case you've described are the fees reclaimable - they are valid fees for choices you have made.0 -

COMPLETION FEE 695.00
MORTGAGE REVIEW FEE - 295.00
TOTAL - 990.000 -
So, Justin, as I said. These are not reclaimable - you chose to switch products and that's why you've been charged those fees.0

Only if the endowment was mis-sold to you, and you haven't already claimed for mis-selling.

I cant see why the endowment provider would pay them. Switching from interest only mortgage to repayment doesnt mean you have to change the deal. Yes, dunstonh, I agree. The specific costs wouldn't be reclaimable from the insurer, but a separate mis-selling claim might yield some useful proceeds to offset against NR's entirely legitimate fees.0
