  • Thanks for the support Bristol Bloke. You're correct I do have a problem with over spending which is what got us into the mess in the first place. We have been on dmp for just about 3 years. Starting off with a debt of 36,000 and we are now down to 22,000 so don't think we r doing too badly. And by no means live an exravagant lifestyle never going out, don't drink, don't smoke and very rarely have treats like take aways. As explained we had a hefty vets bill and yes we went crazy and had a few ice creams and fish chips while we were on a free holiday 50 miles up the road. Honestly you gone on here help and support and not to be judged.

Anyway thanks to everyone for advice just checked yellow pages delivery and nothing in our area. But I have remembered that we have a dishwasher in the garage that we mgh be able to get £50 for in gum tree.
    Thanks again

You have a spending problem. If going on your so-called free holiday has left you in this situation, then you've had a lot more than "a few ice-creams and fish and chips."

Why do you think you can go on holiday? If you are so tight for cash, then a holiday is the last thing you need. When I was in the same situation as you, in 10 years the only holiday I had was a weekend at Pontins with my two kids. Yes, the kids complained but I just let them get on with complaining and I got on with the saving of money.

I still haven't been abroad since 1995, and earlier this year was the first time I'd stayed in a hotel for at least 12 years. If you ain't got the cash, you can't go - it's as simply as that.

Why have you got an horrendous vets bill? You can't afford it, so why have you got a pet? I'd have loved to have had a pet a few years ago, but I couldn't afford it so didn't get one. Have you not heard of the PDSA? Try and get free treatment from them in future, or get rid of the pet. Yes, it's hard, but so is the world outside. What's more important - your survival or the pet?

You have to concentrate when you are in your situation. Stop spending. Period. You're not entitled to spend as you don't have the money to.

I'm now in the fortunate position that I can spend money on what I want. I could go on a cruise tomorrow if I wanted to, but I don't. I may need that money for something else in the future.

If I'd carried on like you, I'd still be in your situation. It sounds blunt, but it's the truth. Just stop spending.
