Childcare Degree

I recently completed my nvq level 3 in childcare and development and am looking at my options. Someone suggested doing a degree. My managers say that they can get funding for it, and I've been looking around at unis in london but only one, london met, seems to do a part time course which is 4 years. I can continue to work whilst studying which is attractive to me, and if I can get the funding I'd be stupid not to. I've even looked at open university's but aren't as keen on this as I like having more support there.
Has anyone got any experiences of childcare degrees or information I might find useful?
Many thanks

If you can get a BA or BEd in this field, that's supported through funding in your current place of work, then I would give consideration to taking up the opportunity. Look into it fully in terms of what/whether placement opportunities in other settings etc would be a possibility. I guess I would be asking about your motivation for doing the degree? Is it likely that you'll be able to achieve a promotion on completion? Are you hoping to go into management? Are there other routes to achieve your end goal? Is the setting you're currently in where you're hoping to stay, or are you looking to get experience with slightly different or more vulnerable children?0

I wouldn't discount the OU as you get quite a lot of support in the early stages - often including regular evening meetings. Degree level study anywhere is about independent study rather than spoon feeding by tutors.
What are your ultimate career aims because this will make a difference to what degree you actually choose.0
