Quick questions

Wonder if any of you guys can help me out here with a quick question. I paid for some items over the internet with my credit card. It's not a massive amount - its £37 and the company was The Garden Factory.

Have gone onto their website today to chase the order up (placed it in February) and it states the company are in administration

What do I do?

Just had a quick look and the administrators are managing the company so you should get your goods if they are still running this as a going concern.
Either way you paid by credit card so you should get your money back if goods don't turn up.

Thanks Lavidaloca, As I say it's not a massive amount of money but I was caught out by the Farepak thing last year and lost £400 there so felt pretty p'd off this morning when I ready about the Garden Factory.

I would suggest that the first thing to do is to speak with your credit card company. Even if the company is in administration there is no guarantee that you will receive your goods so it may be better to get a refund from your cc - cancel the order with the Garden Company and purchase these goods from another source.
Sorry to hear that you were caught out by the Fare-Pak fiasco. I notice that the report was out last week and the proposed measures for 'safeguarding' customers money will be 'voluntary' Makes me wonder why we bother.

I would strongly suggest to anyone who is thinking of using this kind of scheme that they use a company that has voluntarily opted to use the new guidelines;)

  • Hi
if you have paid by credit card your funds are secure. contact your credit card and tell them you have Either:
    1. not authorised the transaction
    or
    2. be honest and tell them you did not recieve your goods

both options will get you your money back. Also did you know that as you have paid on credit the item is owned by the cc until you pay them off ?

Thanks for all the posts. I'm going to phone the Garden Factory first thing tomorrow and if they can't get me my goods by the end of the week and won't refund me, then I'll go to the credit card company.

With regards to Farepak - my only advice to people is don't use any of these companies AT ALL. I was only a customer of theirs as the agent was a friend.

I really hope you get your goods, fingers crossed. The garden factory has traded for a long time, it should have been a good place to buy from, in so far as anywhere is :( It just depends on the state of the company's affairs. You will be an unsecured creditor.

I think it's a bit in the lap of the gods as your order is for less than £100. For the credit card company to be equally liable, it would need to be over that amount. If it was over £100 you could chase them for the money.
