4 Babies in 3 Weeks

  • Hi, I agree with the list that chirpychick has put together!
Unless you know which nappies your friends are planning to use I would steer clear; diff people have diff preferences and a lot of people say that huggies aren't great for boys etc. You also tend to get a lot of free napppies from various clubs and supermarkets so unless you know they are going to be using disposables I wouldn't bother. Same for wipes - everyone has diff opinions on which ones are best.

If you really want to do a baby box then chirpychick and others have given you good advice. However, you could spin this a little and do a Mum-to-be-overnight bag for when your friends have to go into hospital. The kind of things that they will need for this are:

    Maternity Pads
    Breast pads
    Disposable knickers
    front buttoning nightshirt
    mini fan
    cooling spray
    pack of cards
    book
    shower gel
    toothbrush and toothpaste
    shampoo & conditioner
    hairbrush & hairbands
    Lip balm
    massage oil/moisturiser
eye mask (to help sleep on bright wards)
ear plugs (to help sleep on noisy wards!)
socks/slipper socks (feet get cold during labour)
    energy drinks
    snacks

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and have packed my own bag for the hospital but I would have loved it if someone had presented me with the above! Boots often run a 3 for 2 on baby maternity stuff and a lot of the other items can be bought at places like poundland so I think you could have 4 x fantastic gifts for very reasonable price. I don't think many other people will think of it either, so you'll be very original and will probably but them practical stuff that noone else will think of!

    Hope this helps!

I didn't/wouldn't bother with most of that list!

I don't recall getting cold feet during labour, but I do remember that the ward was kept at about a zillion degrees afterwards. Because I had a spinal block I wasn't allowed to stand up for 12 hours. I felt minging. That first shower was the most amazing shower ever (and not just because of the mess I made when I stood up!)

I had to stay in for 2 nights (plus the one where I was in labour) and didn't need anything to help me sleep! After 4 nights without sleep in the run up to the birth I could have slept on a ledge on the roof!

  • Mildred is right, a lot of the things on that list won't be used at all so are a bit pointless (sorry). I will say that list does definitely need a flannel though - essential for brow mopping during the crucial moments.

Sorry to Hijack original post but got to agree that most of the stuff on the Hospital bag list is just going to weigh you down carrying it!! I went in with first baby with a very similar list and never used half of it, 34 weeks pregnant now and only taking:

    Maternity Pads
    Breast pads
    Disposable knickers
    front buttoning nightshirt/maternity pajamas
    shower gel
    toothbrush and toothpaste
    shampoo & conditioner
    Bath towel
    Body butter moisturiser
    hairbrush & hairbands
    Slippers
    3 vests
    3 babygrows
    Baby socks
    Baby Hats
    Scratch mitts
    Nappies
    Wipes
    Nappy bags

No way would you need eye mask and ear plugs, for one thing you are petrified of something happening to the new little person in crib next to you! Literally think I slept with 1 eye open on Pips first night in the world! :rotfl:

First shower feels just THE BEST :D, I had to have an Emergency C-Section so had to wait a bit longer than others. Body shop have some good offers on at the minute for fabby smelling shower gels and body butters, good quality, no nasty stuff in.

Back to original point of post I think it would be lovely to do something for the Mother rather than Baby, or agree with fatblackandwhite that books are a lovely keepsake present that will be used again and again.

I think you could easily get a nice gift for well under £50, good luck in your hunt!

2020 the year of less - Less debt, less waste, less spending, less stuff, less stress!
  • Body shop is owned by Nestl!. :(

Don't forget a pillow! Would have been lost without mine!!
