Slow cookers

Options
Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting a slow cooker. I've seen them recommended on this forum a lot, and I like the idea of being able to leave something cooking while I'm at work.

There are a lot of slow cookers out there, so I was wondering whether anyone had one that they would particularly recommend?

Thanks!

  • I'd buy the cheapest you could find. No point in buying an expensive one and finding out you don't use it.

I have a small one about 2ltrs and a larger one that rarely gets used, I could get two chickens in the big one.

I reckon they're all pretty much the same , high, low, warm and off.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

I did think of getting a cheap one just to see if I like it, but we bought a cheap microwave a couple of years ago and discovered it really wasn't a saving - buttons didn't register when you pushed them, complicated programming system etc. So I'm a little wary of just going for the cheapest...

But it's good to know that they're all pretty much the same. I'll stop looking at the £60 one from Lakeland then!

agreed - just buy one that is big enough for your purposes. You really only need one that is either on or off - any other "features" are unnecessary

Most recent 2 have sold for

The only thing to remember is that if you use dried and soaked kidney beans they need to be boiled first before you put them in the slow cooker, to get rid of toxins. Lakeland has a slow cooking cook book 5.99 on Amazon.

Mine has autocook which is useful to me

    " Auto cook
This setting starts cooking on high and after an hour continues to cook on low. Although not all models have this function, many believe the best results are achieved using this particular setting. "

I bought this one and its really good and great for me as I live alone. Does me for 1.5 meals. The first meal I cook up some veg. The 2nd meal, does enough to fill a jacket potato or depending on what I cooked, bulk it out with either rice, baked beans or tin tomatoes.

I have a few of my kitchen items from this range and no problems with any so far.

I put mine on a timer at the wall socket end, just in case.
