Help with Eon?

Hello,
I built up a debt with Eon Energy for electric and gas combined to roughly £1000. I was on a repayment meter and it was all fine until I moved house. So I telephoned Eon to set up a payment plan of £50 a month as I am part time employed and this is all i can spare (I was basically paying that on the repayment meter anyway). The guy on the phone said they usually cannot take payments that low as they require a maximum of 12 months to pay the debt off. However he said he would see what he could do as I could only afford 50 a month.
He told me to pay £50 to prove my commitment to the plan (which I did there and then) and he would get back to me about confirming the plan. I heard nothing back and now I am getting letters from a debt collection company.
What can I do?

Have a look at the attached link.
Eon does have a grant scheme available to customers with low income and difficulty paying. I don’t know much about this particular scheme as I went through Charris Grants who have a specific partnership with NPower who I am with.
It might be worthwhile speaking to them about getting help if of course you meet the criteria that they are looking for.
In the meantime I would contact Eon directly to ask why you have been sent to a DCA when you have made that initial payment to them.
Utility must be treated as a priority debt so don’t ignore them. From experience (although I’m sure it differs between suppliers) they can extend the debt repayment period to 24 months, especially if you are on a repayment meter.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi Nothadoth,
I'm sorry about this situation you are in, I hope I can help a little bit
To be honest I don't think the adviser you have spoken to has helped you properly.
You need to have an actual agreed payment arrangement in place, otherwise (as you have found out) debt collection follow up will continue and chase for the full balance owing on the account.
I agree with nfollows1982, you must speak to us as soon as you can and get something in place to start paying back the balance.
Our Caring Energy department is a good place to start and speaking to them is the best thing to do.
I'm sorry the adviser didn't get back to you
If you need any help from me, please just ask
