Hi I am looking at starting to bake a few cakes and cookies to sell at craft fayres and to friends and for charity fundraisers. Is there any regulations I have to have or food hygiene certificate before I look into doing this any further ? Some of the income will be donated at charity fundrasing events and other will go in piggy bank.for rainy days but it wont exactly be a business enterprise just a few cakes and cookies tables.
Thanks in advance for advice.

I am very interested in this subject so will be keeping a close eye on the responses. I honestly think the whole cakey-bakey stuff is a bit of a nightmare. I am looking into baking at home and selling on the markets but haven't found it straightforward. You need a food hygiene cert and a license and insurance, you also need to be cooking in 'suitable premesis'. If you are selling to the public you have to abide to the rules. My home kitchen would need to be re-furbished up to standards and renting a professional kitchen costs £25.00 an hour around here! What makes me really mad :mad:is that I baked for a charity bake sale and made loads of stuff, in my unsuitable kitchen which was all sold in under an hour,:j as far as I know everyone lived to tell the tale. I think the main drawback is where you are doing the cooking. Once you have sorted that out you'll be rareing to go. I do think that there is quite a bit of baking/selling going on, on the 'never-never'. Lots of info on the directgov website .Good luck0

If you did decide to turn it into a business, I think ´Bake a Difference´ would be a fantastic name!0
