Help with phone interview?

What are the most common interview questions? Anything I should really read up on? I work for Tesco customer service (supermarket) and the job is in Tesco bank as a customer service representative...whcih I guess is what I already do at Tesco anyway. Any hints/tips/questions I should read up on?

  • When I mystery shop banks, they are always very keen that the CSRs should try to sell me extra stuff. So if someone comes in asking to deposit a large cheque, for example, the staff are supposed to ask if you have any plans for the money and whether you would like any advice on investment schemes.

    I suggest you read up all the stuff that Tesco banks offer their customers, so you can talk fluently about the services you might be talking to customers about!

  • What ideas do you personally have for how you've prepared so far for this interview? Perhaps then people can offer you feedback or ask questions to help you reflect on your preparation so far

    But certainly making sure you've researched the role and particular service will be a good starting point

    You manage it?

    for future reference call interviews follow two patterns, either a brief chat about you, the job and the company or a competency based interview where you be asked about particular situations such as (and not limited to):

    1) Can you tell me about a time you have had a difficult customer and how you handled it?
    2) Please tell me about a time you've had to work in a team and what role you played within that team

    There are loads more but once you've got the hang of them you have a situation prepared for all of them or you become like me who thinks on his feet, never lies but bends the truth for example I always get asked when going for sales jobs question 1, my answer near enough is always..

    Once when I was working for ............ (Sales) I had a customer who just couldn't understand the benefits of our product and rather than let me explain she became irate and demanded to speak to a manager because I was ringing her out of the blue.... I asked her what the problem were and listened carefully making sure once she was complete I addressed her issues, by empathising with her and explaining things she allowed me to go on and explain what it was that I was selling ... (Depending on how cheesy I want to be here I either say that I got the customer to buy the product or I say whilst she did let me explain it all unfortunately it turned out the product was just not suitable for her but at least we ended the call on good terms)

    Competency based interviews are my favourite, I !!!! them everytime.
