Welcome to the Bankruptcy (BR) Board.

Hello and Welcome, Many of the posters on here have been through bankruptcy. They will be able to help, advise and also offer you support. We do have posters who have/do work for the OR and Debt charities too.

Written by Fermi our board guide:-

"Many people find that debt and bankruptcy is the cause or result of a period of great distress and anxiety in their lives. For some this can reach a stage where it is difficult to cope. So I would remind you that The Samaritans are available to help you through your troubles if the emotional side threatens to become overwhelming."

To post your question go to the top left hand side of BR board, opposite the page numbers and press the "New Thread" button as shown below:

And type in the Title to your thread. If your post doesn’t get answered straight away please don’t lose heart, it’s often due to not being a 100% sure we would be giving the correct answer. If you find your post is not answered and it’s on page 2, please ‘bump’ your post back up the board.

We often ask you to post your SOA so we can see if you have included what you need to:-

  • Hi all,

I'm new on here but just wanted some advice pls.

I declared myself bankrupt in November after I realised my DMP wouldn't be clear for another 15 years and glad i did. However, after having the interview with my OR, she said id have to have an IPA because of my surplus money I'm left with. A few days later, I had a letter from the insolvency service asking me to sign to confirm that I agree the amount that would be taken was £630 and then when my tax code changed to NT, it would be £900. It then said the first payment would be the 3rd Jan. I signed the form and sent it back, have heard nothing from anyone since and no payment has been taken.

I spoke to a friend of mine who went bankrupt some years ago and she said that although she was told initially that she would have to pay money back, ( and had been given an amount ) in reality, they never took any money from her.
The money is in my account at the moment, it's about all that is and I'm treading on eggshells trying to be extra careful not to spend into it but its hard when I've got no telephone/internet banking facilities at the moment to know whats going out. I'm now in a position wondering what to do... It's a lot of money just sitting there waiting and there's things I could really use it for - i loaned the court and bankruptcy fees from my dad - but I'm worried that they'll then suddenly try and take it. Or what happens if i leave it till Feb and they still haven't taken it?
I haven't signed any other form other than the initial one to say I agreed to the amount, wouldn't I need to have signed a d/d or s/o form for it to be taken from my bank?
I dont really want to contact the OR as she wasn't particularly friendly anyway.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated !
    Thanks

    Hi Madrep and welcome

You would do much better to post a new thread for your query as not many of the regulars who could give you advice read this thread.

Good luck and I hope you do get the help you need.

    Best wishes
