Want to buy car with low emissions

HI All
Considering getting a new car in coming months, and am starting to get into all this enviroment stuff and want to do the right thing and buy one with low emissions
Wanted a Landrover initially until I saw it was 4.4 litre and just couldnt bring myself to do it
Price not an object really, anything under 40k as will probably lease it
For background, I have 3 kids, 2 dogs and a hubby and we live quite remotely and the only access to our house is an unadopted road full of pot holes which has wrecked the car I have now
i.e. I need something pretty big and I do quite a bit of travelling so I need something where every petrol station has the correct fuel
other than that I'm not too bothered
Any suggestions other than dont own a car would be gratefully received

Well the accord has the best MPG rating, if thats primarily what your after, VW's generally hold their value well, but these days Hondas are pretty well engineered, i also note the VW has the best ENCAP safety rating. If you want to go into more detail you could check out https://www.parkers.co.uk for some reviews.
good luck

just noticed the little message at the end of the guardian article, have a look at https://www.eta.co.uk, which reviews most new cars green credentials0

What about the Lexus RX 400h? Very good green credentials (comparatively!) for a 4x4/SUV I don't know how much it is new though.0

just the car I was about to mention ;-) .... it has a (Toyota) hybrid engine (petrol + electric motor).- Plenty of Power
- Every Petrol station will have the right fuel (Petrol!)
- Plenty of room for family + Dog
- Will handle your roads well
- Hybrid engine will be far better than other SUVs
- The hybrid Lexus actually holds its value quite well.
From your initial choice you mentioned (Landrover), then this will be a good alternative"Getting Married" - The act of betting half of everything you own on the fact you will love someone forever :rotfl:0 -
The Lexus really doesn't have any green credentials. It does 34mpg, you can get the same with a Land Rover diesel.
Add to that the amount of energy required to make the batteries and motors, and the extra disposal costs. Then it's a shockingly non green car!
The Accord is a much better choice.
God knows why anyone would want to spend £40k on a car though. I'd spend £10k on a nearly new Mondeo diesel and think of something much better to spend the other £30k on.0 -
i heard an item on the radio a few months ago about research into the greenest car , some research had been done into all the energy used in the production of the vehicle , how far the work force had to travel , how much polution the car would give out in its lifespan and how much of it could be recycled after it had finished its road life .
the one that came top was the wrangler jeep ,
the amount of pollution that is made during road use is only a part of the total amount of a cars life , this should be taken into account0 -
