Payment protection plan with First Plus

We took out a first plus Loan a year ago we borrowed £54000 with payment
protection plan, but we have asked for a settlement figure and this came in today at £63995 it appears we have paid nothing of the loan and they are asking for an extra £9995 which is part of the payment protection plan

We do not know what to do can anyone help or advise us of where we stand
asthe remortgage side is all going through and it will mean borrowing an extra amount, which we feel we should not have to do and know where does it show on the terms & conditions that this is added to the orginal advance.

please help
