Morrisons Fuel Saver

Just got an email from Morrisons.. for every £10 you spend on gift cards (can be used for shopping) you get a coupon giving you 1p off a litre for one fuel transaction.

Not ultra generous but may help someone..

  • Probably the most convoluted way of saving money Ive ever come across...especially if you live where we do!
I shop at morrisons, Alnwick. Theres not a fuel station there, the nearest is at Morpeth 20 miles away. The only stores represented in by their gift cards in Alnwick are Boots and Homebase. None of the chain restaurants are within 20 miles...(I probably would not want to eat in them anyway) Most outlets for anything are 40 miles away in Newcastle.

Alnwick has some of the highest fuel prices in its two fuel stations for any town in Northumberland which adds to the annoyance of this offer.

I suppose if I buy gift cards for all my christmas presents I could save afew quid...but lifes too short!

My wife works for Morrisons and when she told me about this the other day I was a bit sceptical. I mean why would I want to buy a gift voucher for £30 just to save 3p per litre. I mean it would probably only save me about £1.50 on a full tank (yes before anybody says £1.50 is still cash saved I know). But actually the idea is really lets say you are going to be spending £200 at Toy R Us this Christmas then you purchase your card from Morrisons therefore earning 20p off per litre. Or even you are thinking of redecorating a room in your home and you were going to spend money at Homebase say for instance £1000. Simply buy the voucher card from Morrisons and then you earned £1 off per litre of petrol.
Of course it only is a good offer if you were going to be using those stores anyway.
  • Good idea, nice way of getting cheaper petrol, but BEWARE.
I went Saturday and bought £40 of Homebase vouchers, was going to spend the day doing up the garden, and £400 of Currys vouchers, new TV.
Went to Homebase first but their computers were down and they could not check if the vouchers were activated or process them. They also pointed out that it can take 3 days to activate the vouchers
Then went to Currys, vouchers have been activated, but got told at the counter that you can only use 4 vouchers at a time.
On Sunday went back to homebase, now to be told that the vouchers had still not been activated.
Advice would be, the buy well in advance of needing them, and check how many the store will accept, especially if buying bigger items

The maximum purchase using Morrisons petrol vouchers is 100 litres. We have 2 cars which each hold 50 litres It appears we can use the voucher to fill up both cars providing it is one transaction. Is this correct and has anyone done this ? Thanks

It has to be from the same pump as two pumps is two transactions. So best going at a quiet time. I'm not too sure about this on the T&Cs
