JSA Question

Hi I have to claim Jobseekers as I have been made redundant for the 1st time in 25 Years, I was asked a question today at DHSS office, the question was "do I own any other property, apart from the property I live in" I answered no, as I do not, but my wife owns another property in her name only. I am only claiming JSA & no other benefits as my wife is in full time employment, would I need to tell them about the property my wife owns, they did not ask me about my wifes income at all so Im hoping that I answered correctly.

Lol I can see why you say DHSS, but its been called DWP for a number of years now.
You are claiming JSA in your own right presumably Contributions Based so no, you do not have to declare it at teh moment.
I beleive this will be for six months, hopefully you will have found a job by then.
You would then apply to go onto income based, but because your wife is working you presumably would not be entitled to it.
If she wasnt working and you had to maek a joint claim, then yes, at that time it would have tobe declared.
Good luck in finding a job. Not nice being made redundant. Although
saying that I was made redundant after 25 years last year, just before I thought about retiring. Whooppeee, that way I went with a cheque instead of nothing.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I once thought of claiming contribution-based JSA but didn't when they wanted to know about my OH's income which clearly had nothing to do with my claim. They said it was because I might want to claim income based JSA in the future!0
