Anyone recommend a web hosting/website builder package?

Options
Hi

I am trying to set up my own website - very simple, with a limited number of pages, from which to sell my own designs of craft/design work. I would like there to be a shopping cart facility and for it to look like a storefront rather than a blog. I will be uploading my own photos/logo etc. I have my own domain name.

I tried hostgator, but found problems with the information they gave me (ie. links not working) and the web builder tool was not at all customer-friendly and I have now applied to get a refund from them and have cancelled my account.

Can anyone recommend a good, easy hosting and web builder package that is inexpensive?

Thank you in advance

  • Are you limited to pre-installed solutions or would you be comfortable setting up the store yourself (not programming just configuring)?

Are you happy with a bit of an up front cost and low running costs or would you rather higher running costs and no setup?

Really you should be looking for an ecommerce system you like and then working backwards to find a host that will support it than trying to find a webhost and then being limited to whatever offering their systems have/ can support
  • Falcoda is very good. I use it on my medium sized website (500-1000 daily page views) and it's pretty cheap. Also it has excellent customer service representatives who will often go above and beyond to help you.
  • Thanks for your replies, I'll check out Falcoda chrisuren.

II - thanks for the info. I am not at all technical I'm afraid and annot grasp the terminologies used in web design, so even your reply fuddles my brain a little! To be honest, I just want it to be really simple and easy as it is likely to be a very small 'shop'. As long as it works and is not difficult to do! I'm good at the creative side, but terrible with technical things! A 'build a site in 3 simple steps which still looks good and is cheap' solution would be great. Unlikely, I know, but great nonetheless!
  • Have you had a look at wix ?

Just do a google search for it. They have some superb free templates available.
  • I used to use Weebly for a blog that I co wrote with several others from my industry. We just used it as a blog, but I am pretty sure that one of the others went on to build another site using Weebly that she had a shopping cart on. Might be worth a look?
  • I haven't used them personally but know a fair few people that do use them and rate them highly so I'd suggest at least looking at EKM Powershop

The other option if you are happy to have an up front outlay is to get someone to set you up with a more technical solution and then leave you to just populate the items etc which is easier to do. You may have to pay a couple of hundred up front but the annual fees afterwards will be sub £50 -v- EKM which is £240
  • Interestingly, I know a couple of people who have used EKM for a few years, and both have changed in the last 6 months to another host as they had so many problems with EKM. Don't know if its just a recent thing, but it must have been pretty bad for them to have changed!

    Hi,
I can highly recommend Corgitech (just Google them), I host my website there. The guy that runs the company is very proud of his customer service - usually small companies are more careful with looking after their clients. Their prices are very good too. And no, I don't work for them.

Moonfruit may be good for you. They're cheaper in most circumstances than 1+1 etc.
