If you want to buy a pre-payment certificate in Scotland get Form EC95 from any of the following locations:
• Post Office
• Pharmacist
• Benefits Agency office
• Primary care trust or your doctor's surgery.0 -

I live on the wales/shropshire border and have been charged £6.50, when I went to a welsh chemist as my Prescription was issued by a shropshire doctor. Is the legal at present?0

I believe so. I had an English prescription dispensed in Cardiff, and there was a sign at the till saying that there were two different prices depending on where the script was written.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Can anyone help me? I am a supply teacher with no guaranteed income. I can claim job seekers allowance when I am not working. My income over the last year has ben £6500 (approx). As someone with severe asthma I normaly have a pre-payment certificate for my 11 monthly items, but this year I just cannot afford £98. I can't claim WTC as I don't consistently work over 16 hours. Is there any onter route that anyone knows?0

Another source for cheaper medicines could be your local hospital.
Bournemouth's Pharmacy sells a wide range of medicines even cheaper than chemists.
I don't know how widespread this practice is, but it might be worth finding out.

Just to clarify the Welsh / English prescription pricing difference: you can only have your prescription for £3 (new price since April 06) if it was written by a doctor in Wales (ie the doctor's address at the bottom of the form is in Wales). Otherwise its £6.65 per item regardless of whether you get it dispensed in Wales or England.
We saw a patient recently who had 2 prescriptions, one issued while she was away at Uni in England, and one from her GP at home in Wales. It took a lot of explaining and diplomacy to tell her that it would be £6.65 for the English one and £3 for the Welsh, despite the fact they were both for the same thing.0 -
I rarely need prescriptions but needed one today, the pharmacist told me it was actually cheaper to buy over the counter - a saving of 78p. Hows that for service.0
