If you have tried to switch to EDF using Energy Helpline recently, be aware...

Options
Hi,

I applied for the EDF Blue +Price Promise April 2014 tariff through energy helpline last week (28/8). With the news that this tariff had been withdrawn at the end of last week, coupled with the fact that I had not received anything from EDF, I became concerned.

I contacted EDF and asked if they had a record of my application and were sending me anything. The confirmed that, whilst they had received my application via Energy Helpline, an account in my name had not been created.

I assumed that this was because I had missed out on the tariff, but I was relieved when I was given a link to sign up directly with EDF, so in the end I managed to get where I wanted to be, albeit without the £15 cashback I was expecting from Energy Helpline!

I just wanted to put this out there in case others are in the same boat and sat waiting for a letter from EDF - it would be worth giving them a ring if you recently applied through Energy Helpline and have yet to receive anything!

H.

We too thought we had switched our flat last week via EnergyHelpline and then today I went to switch our son's house to the same tariff.

Got a shock when EDF Blue either didn't appear on the comparison sites, or was still listed but with all the buttons greyed out (really useful that!)

Took a punt and went direct to the EDF web site and found the tariff was still there, so did the switch for the house.

Then saw this post - panic! Flew back to the EDF web site and did the switch for the flat directly - confirmation email was immediately received. Their call centre is "receiving more than the usual number of calls" at present - not surprising! My advice would be to go "belt and braces", don't phone them, just go to the EDF web site and apply directly.

Someone at EnergyHelpline should be taken out and shot over this - they will never regain any credibility in my eyes and are now definitely on my black-list. The confirmation from EDF was effectively instantaneous, so it is inexcusable for EnergyHelpline to fail people in this way.

I switched to edf through energy helpline at the start of July and my switch has gone through. Very strange that your switches aren't working! Really puts you off!? I received an instant email from energy helpline and edf were in touch by email initially exactly one week after I applied to switch. I guess, presuming energy helpline confirmed your switch at the time, your experiences aren't outside my time frame but I definitely understand why you'd want to be sure it was progressing under the circumstances.

  • Don't use the energy helpline they didn't pay my cash back.
I should have received £50 cash back for switching but no money came and they have told me I will not recieve the cash back.

    Welcome Sean385 :)

Since when has EHL ever offered to pay £50 cashback?

Maybe MSE Martin needs to re-negotiate the special MSE cashback rates if they offer that amount elsewhere ;)

I have been emailing Energy Helpline asking why I have not received my cashback when I switched supplier with them. They have proof from me that the switch went through them but have referred me to a third party affiliate of theirs to contact further regarding the cashback. This third party site does not appear to have anything to do with them. I have asked them twice for my money and now they have stopped responding altogether. There appears to be no way of escalating this matter to anyone in the company. I would advise anyone thinking of using them to steer clear.
