Wow this was fast, i saw the advert on Monday sent my CV in, got a call Wed, had an interview Thurs and got a job offer on Friday...start next Mon
its been done informally at the moment so i do not know term/pay etc as yet, I am going in Monday to discuss, and if all ok then that fine (i am sure it will be)
You lot might be able to help me out here, its a part time job 16 hours a week
but i do not know how this can be split, i want school hours (which they realise as they know i have 2 young children) now in theory its 5 hours 20 mins a day, but what about lunch break am i entitled? and if so would that get added on to the time? sorry only ever worked full time in the past so i have no idea...
Thank you

Congratulations! That was lovely and speedy for you.
I have a feeling that you may only be entitled to a 15-20 min break, since 5 hours is considered to be the max. period you can work without a break. When I worked 25 hours per week, I did five hours per day and wasn't entitled to a break of more than 10 mins. See what they say, though. It may be that you could have a 30 min break for lunch unpaid - working 2 hours 40 mins either side of it, or something like that.
Congratulations again.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

In my place of work we are allowed to work up to 6 hours without a break. This is voluntary, however, and a break is recommended.0

The Working Time Directive means that if your shift lasts less than 6 hours you do not have to be allowed a break. That's the law (as long as you are over 18) but alias7 is right to suggest a break would be a good idea.
If you did have a lunch break then that is not paid time.0 -
Well done on getting the job. I work 5 hours shifts and get 20 mins breakPad, started 28.11.08 running total £3674.91:T

Depends on the job - in my current job I DO get a paid lunch break. I am sure it is only because I was going to be working a 6 hour day, and asked at interview about a lunch break (which I knew wasn't a legal requirement - I just wanted to check what hours they wanted me to work because that hadn't been formalised. And one of the trustees interviewing me said yes of course I should have a lunch break INCLUDED in my hours.LittleVoice wrote: »If you did have a lunch break then that is not paid time.
Actually I usually work enough hours that it's not a paid lunch break, but that's another story.
girlsmum, best of luck to you. Think in advance which hours would suit you best, and also about what WOULDN'T work. Then see what would suit them best.
By the way you've split the hours over 3 days, I'm presuming that's what they want you to work, so you need to be clear about your earliest regular starting and latest regular finishing times. You may find they offer flexi-time (I LOVE flexi-time), where it wouldn't matter if you didn't start or finish at the same time every day as long as you did the hours. Equally you may find that they ALWAYS want you to cover a particular time, eg opening the post or sending it out at the end of the day.
and I would definitely ask for either one longer or two short breaks within that 5 hours 20 minutes! You'll work better with a break of some kind!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks all i am not to bothered about having a lunch break, i just wanted to know really. I dont really need one to be honest as the place is in an ind est and there is nothing around there anyway, so i would be twiddling my thumbs for most of it. I will be happy with 10 mins so i can eat somthing.
Oh and Savvy_sue I do know that they are flexible they said so, not so much flexitime, (which i have had in my old job abd it was brilliant)but she did say that they are happy for me to swap days if i need to etc in the same instance they want me to be a bit flexible like occassionally do more hours to help cover holiday, which to be honest i am fine with. I will also be asked to do an occassional Saturday just to answer phones and take details to send brochures out, which i can apparently do from home if i want.
I am quite looking forwards to it, I have not worked since leaving work to go on maternity leave in 2002 so almost 5 years, and i have only been looking for job since January, i was a bit worried that i would find something.
thanks again0 -
congratulations and I hope everything goes well with you and you love your new job .0
