Hi ppl im a 23 year old wiv a problem..My dad has suddenly passed away 3 weeks ago from an acute asthma attack. I have 2 jobs both 16 hours, 1 is working in a busy bakery dealing with all ages of general public in a town centre, job 2 is support work for a lady with mild learning disabilities. I am ready to go back to job 2 as my lady knows what's happened an knows not to upset me with it, but job 1 I'm not ready to go back to as the general public can b very irate especially in our shop as its always busy n always has queues, and customers won't know not to !!!! me off... No other way to put it. So can I get a sick note just for job 1 (busy bakery)? Is it illegal? Iv never been off sick before, I like to work, but definately not ready yet it's still not hit me or my mum bro sis & his friends. This will probably only be for 2-4 weeks until (I hope) I feel ready to deal with large amounts of general public. Help I don't want to get into trouble but have bills to pay.

    It is perfectly possible.

It is of course up to the doctor's professional judgement. He must be of the opinion that you are unfit to work in one job for some reason whereas the other is OK.

A more obvious example would be somebody with a physical injury who has two jobs, one manual and one clerical.
  • Ah thank u, well I'm at the docs tomoz so if I just tell him what I plan to do I shud b ok. He did say when I got my first sick note 2 weeks ago if I need any more time don't hesitate. Thanks :)
  • The doctor does need to be careful that he does explicitly state that you are only unfit for the one job.

If there are any doubt in the matter your employer for the second job could find they have issues with their insurance should anything happen to you. Generally working whilst signed off sick invalidates the employers liability insurance etc.
