It would be much easier to just undo the trap and clean it all properly.

How about washing soda and boiling water? Flush 1/2 kettle of boiling water in plug really quickly, add 1/4 pack of washing soda and top up with boiling water.
Wouldn't do this is plastic bath tho'.

I second the Veet option as a first line of attack. If that doesn't work, get in under the bath and remove the u-bend for a good flush-through (stick a bucket under there first).

Whatever you do, don't pour sulphuric acid on it. I did that and dissolved the screw holding the plug-hole together. A while later, Husband ran a bath and water ended up coming through the ceiling downstairs!

One side effect, though, is that I learned how to replace the trap and pipe down to the u-bend. It's not difficult and the parts are not expensive (£12-ish in B&Q). Find the in-store plumber and he'll talk you through what you need and how to go about it.

It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

i use a vwp solution to clean plug holes / drains etc - in fact i use vwp for just about everything in my house (when i clean, which isn't as often as it should be :o)

i primarily use it for the cleaning and sterilising for my homebrewing - but it's magic for working on so many other things - especially floors, limescale, windows etc - can go in wash mac, great for sterilising chopping boards etc i even use a solution in a spray bottle, for wiping surfaces down - actually i use it everywhere that needs a good clean

best thing is - it's not badly priced (about £5 for 400g) and as it comes in powder form - you can make up any strength you need from it :T

a 400g tub by the way - will make upto 120 gallons of cleaner / steriliser

Sorry to be thick what is VWP mixture

    thanks

Sounds truely gruesome.... not sure I'd want to venture putting any part of my body in there and pulling it out!

Have you tried putting bicarb of soda and white vinegar down followed by a kettle full of hot water. Usually does the trick for me but might need a few goes!

    Good luck!

ps. would be interested to know what does shift it.. just out of curiosity!
