what council and bailiff company are you dealing with
check here to confirm the bailiff is certificated and to what company
http://certificatedbailiffs.justice.gov.uk/CertificatedBailiffs/
don't worry about the bailiff as said don't answer the door to him(you should keep your locked because legally they can walk in if the door is unlocked ) and keep the car well away from your flatI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

Ive checked and he is certified to the correct company. Its Chandlers Bailiffs. The lock is on plus chain and OH has taken the car to work. Ive found this template letter (1st one) http://www.consumerwiki.co.uk/index.php/Bailiffs:_Useful_Template_Letters Does that look like the right thing to post to them tomorrow? Many thanks for all your help. xhallowitch wrote: »what council and bailiff company are you dealing with

Remember to send letters recorded and signed for so that you know they have been received, that way they cannot deny ever getting them.
Good luck.
Been here for a long time and don't often post0 -

If your husband is on 24 hours and you're not working are you on benefits? our council takes back the debt if the client is on benefits and then sets up either a £5 per week repayment scheme or an attachment of benefits (less than £15 per month) provided the debt and the benefits are in the same name.
Speak to the council to find out what their policy is, they'll have tried a lot of letters before they got to this stage so you and they both know that you've all known there was a debt for a while, but they might not know your circumstances if you didn't complete the 14 Day Letter they sent out."There is no substitute for time."
Competition wins:
2013. Three bottles of oxygen! And a family ticket to intech science centre. 2011. The Lake District Cheese Co Cow and bunny pop up play tent, cheese voucher, beach ball and cuddly toy cow and bunny and a £20 ToysRus voucher!0 -

We get child and working tax credit. Have spoken to the council this morning who say they cant take it back. We got a few months behind (used to pay full c.tax and rent when OH was in his old job) just before OH was made redundant in 2010 then couldnt afford to pay it back as he was on JSA for just over a year. I did completely forget about it as I cant even remember when they last contacted me. At least this has shock started me into tackling debts again, I dont want to live like this anymore. Thanks for your reply.'They only had one cow!'0 -
