First comment - please disregard the post from baldelectrician.

As per Sambucus Nigra - how long have you worked at your current employer?

In a nutshell, you were 15 minutes late from a break - this is not acceptable.

You said that you went home and underestimated the time it would take - honestly ?

Ideally you should have spoken with your manager before going on your break, and explained the situation.

Failing that, you should have just held your hands up, apologised and offered to make the time up - problem over.

You could have then addressed the other issues about facilities at another time (ideally all together as a group).

Instead, you effectively challenged your managers authority in front of your colleagues. Although I am not saying that your manager was correct, you clearly should not have done this (particularly as you were in the wrong about the lateness).

The Op was asked questions and he answered them, if you are suggesting he should have not answered or only said what his manager wanted to hear, then I suggest you do that if that's how you want to live but I think the OP was correct in standing up for him/her self.

It would make no sense for the OP to come on here and give the wrong account of what happened, I believe the OP when they say the manager is picking on him/her (OP please say if you are male or female :rotfl:).

Already on a warning, late back with no apology and then waffling about the staff room? Then you challenge the Managers authority, use the schoolkids excuse of "I'm not the only one" and ring your Managers boss on his day off. (You couldn't possibly do it on your day off could you).
For you naivety they might just give you a verbal warning, but your not in line for a promotion any time soon.

I certainly would suggest that - if he is wanting to keep his job. He has said on here that the manager winds everyone there up - thus showing that the manager is not treating him unfairly.

But all of this is a waste of time if we do not know how long he has worked there. If he has been there a year, there might be a slim chance of taking out a grievance however what would be the point? The management would find the manager has acted properly bearing in mind the lateness and the attitude and it would be case closed.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I am not suggesting that somebody should not have answered - I disagreed with the advice given and said so.

What do you mean, "the OP was correct in standing up for him/her self" ?

By their own admission, they were late (and becuase they "lost track of time").

The facilities were not the issue, and that time (in my opinion) was not the time to raise this seperate issue.

You believe that the OP is being "picked on" - so what ? - what do you advise them to do ?

As has been pointed out, the manager "winds everybody up" so therefore the OP is not even being "picked on".

There are other facts that we do not know (the key being their length of service).
