Loan Denial

in Loans
In 1996 I had the front of my house rendered in a treatment called ‘Protectacoat’; Firthglow Limited undertook the works.
In 2010 I noticed some damp in our bedroom and contacted Firthglow for advice, as I have a 20 year guarantee for the works, only to discover they had gone into liquidation. However a web-link took me to a company called Lifecote, a specialist in damp proofing, who were committing to work on my behalf to arrange repairs etc. The condition is that the guarantee is void unless you used a finance plan through G.E.Money (formerly First National Bank) to purchase the coating. G.E.Money has a legal obligation to undertake all repairs and I needed to provide confirmation of my account details with First National.
The problem I have is that I have not retained any documents proving a loan and G.E.Money are not able (or willing) to provide account details. Lifecoat conducted a survey of my house and have estimated repairs of £12k.
How can I determine what loans I had in 1996. I have checked with my bank, First Direct, and they have provided details of two loans 09/01/1996 £1k and 14/02/1996 £3.15k. But the loan for Protectocoat would have been from July/August 1996. It is unlikely that the February loan was used for Protectocoat as they were a ‘knock-on-the-door’ company and I would not have planned ahead. The loan required would have been for about £2k. G.E.Money have confirmed details of later (settled) loans I have had with them but without account details I do not have a case.
I maybe wrong, but I cannot see how I would have financed the work without a loan from G.E.Money. I have spoken to Experian but their records do not go back as far as 1996.

Would not the clause insisting you used GE Money as the finance providers not be an unfair clause under contract law?
If you have not kept your copies then you may be stuffed with this.0 -
Sounds like an initial scam, followed up with a secondary scam. Get an independent surveyor to look at the property and proceed accordingly.0

I remember having the hard sell from chumps like these years ago, must have been late nineties.
My ex had invited them in, about 6hrs of absolute torture, ring the boss, great deal only available today, extra Brucie bonus if we use your house for our sales brochure, the whole shamoly.
It got quite argumentative at the end when I kept telling him where the door is but he went in the end without my business.
I recall the brochure showing liveried vans, clean logo emblazoned overalls modelled by the "Professional installers".
Some couple up the road signed up, some pot bellied hooligan and his band of 15yr old chavs turned up in a battered, rusty old transit.
The Professional State of the Art Appplication process actually consisted of a bucket and pasting brush.
Sorry friend but it was a complete scam, the whole thing. without researching it is clear the reason they changed their name is because the Law caught up with them and shut them down (only to pop up the next day with another name to carry on scamming).
Forget this guarantee, it is worthless, just address the damp to way the rest of us would.

I'm afraid it's up to you to provide evidence of a financial link, and I guess that's impossible now from what you say. Sorry

I would be very tempted to get in a completely independent company to review the damp - £12k is a ridiculous figure. Get two or three quotes and see what you are really facing.
Then speak to this lot again, once you have a stack of quotes (all of which are likely to be a lot less than their). Or, and this is just a thought, go elsewhere. If the guarantee is void, then there isn't much you can do, except try not to be suckered by this lot. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
