Is the employer breaking the rules

A good friend of mine has an agreement with his employer through ACAS for unpaid wages and is due to be paid soon, last week the employer told him that there was money waiting for him and to go and collect it.

He went with a colleague to collect the money, but he asked what the money was in relation to, he was told the dates which was some of the dates for some of the salary that is in the agreement with ACAS and is to be paid directly into his bank account.

If he accepted the money his employer was offering to him would the agreement with ACAS be cancelled and this would leave him short of what was agreed through ACAS, also would there been consequences for him if he accepted the cash that his employer was offering to him.
