New Years Yorkshire Getaway ideas needed

Hi Everyone, I love coming on these forums as everyone seems to have such great ideas so I was wondering if I could ask for some help.

I am planning a Yorkshire getaway for my husbands birthday (also New Years Eve) at a little self catering lodge. If I lay out below what I am planning and what I need some creative help with.

I am putting together a hamper of Yorkshire goodies, so far: Yorkshire Crisps, Harrogate sausages (Denise & Andrews), Pontefract cake and other bits and bobs from the Yorkshire Pantry website. (Any other Yorkshire staples I haven't thought of?)

We will be there 4 nights so I am going to get some cardboard gable boxes and put a date night in each one such as...

Spa night with bath robes (which I will personalise with our names sewn on) spa shoes, new pjs and fancy toiletries.

Sports night as there is a new yrs match on - his teams sport shirt with his name on with beer.

Smores night all the fixins to make smores.

Film night New dvd, popcorn and some proper mountain dew (his fav if I can find it)

I want to decorate the place and the car and will also have a fridge of fav drinks such as beer, coke (vanilla if I can find it) and Harrogate spa drink (as we are in Yorkshire.)

SO if you got through all that!! I want ideas on finding cheap bathrobes, where to find things like Vanilla Coke and proper Mountain Dew and glass bottles of Harrogate Spa water.

Also any fun decoration ideas.

We also have a hot tub with the lodge so some outside lighting ideas?

Anything really to make the getaway fun for his Birthday.

Thank you very much for any ideas :) :T

hendersons relish is a must! Also goodies from the Yorkshire Soap Company, beer from any of the breweries (Bare Arts in Todmorden, Black Sheep in Masham), Yorkshire based movies (although I can't think of any other than the Full Monty!!)....

Where abouts is your lodge? Presumable North Yorks? What about a tour of one of the brewaries? Black sheep do them I think, they also have a lovely restaurant, really good food.

What about Yorkshire tea too? You could have parkin with it then which is v Yorkshire! Well it is if your a Tyke like me!

You can get solar lights at the mo in B and M the end of their summer stock, which are £5 for a string which is quite long too for your hot tub lights.

Try McKenzies smoke house or Bliekers for your hamper. Also, what about anything Nestle as the Rowntree factory was in York originally and one in Halifax.

Hi, I live in N Yorks. Wensleydale cheese - you can usually get it in Tesco in the run up to Christmas on offer. Many types of black sheep - plus go for a tour round, the cafe is lovely. If you pm me and let me know where you are staying I can suggest other things. As for getting things cheaply, try eBay, dunelm etc xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Are you talking about mountain dew as in the drink? If so have you tried American Soda online?
  • Thankyou very much for all of your replies!

Really grateful for all your ideas.

Fat Rascals with Stamfrey Farm Clotted Cream (bettys.co.uk for the fat rascals and Lewis and Cooper for the clotted cream). A Fat Rascal is a yorkshire scone with nuts and cherries and they are awesome. Shepherds Purse Yorkshire Blue cheese is great on crackers with a glass of wine (thinking in the hot tub :rotfl:)

Sadly you can no longer get Vanilla Coke in the UK, although it is widely available on the continent. Mountain Dew is widely available in independent retailers and cash and carrys. Harrogate Spa in glass is a line that is really only found in Deli's and hotels. Have you a local restaurant/deli that may be able to order some for you?

Have an amazing time. I'm a North Yorks girl and it really is a wonderful part of the country.
  • Thank you madvixen.

I will definitely try to get the water at my local deli and I love the scone idea!

    Really appreciate your thoughts.

Whereabouts are you staying? I may be able to find you a water stockist near there.
