Any unoccupied home should be charged at 10 times assessed Council Tax rate.

There's two unoccupied homes within 4 doors of me either side, both down to OAPs getting moved into residential care. How could they pay 10 times council tax given they're already being chiselled by the care costs?

Hmm - so I guess you haven't read that from April 2013 all Community Care Grants and Crisis Loans will cease being paid by DWP. Instead a reduced amount of money will be managed by Local Councils under local welfare and they are indeed exploring paying with vouchers and supporting people via food banks and second hand white goods rather than cash.

That has a certain mid 19th century feel to it, why don't we just bring back workhouses and be done with it icon9.gif
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher
  • Unworkable!

Net curtains. Couple of blow-up dummies propped up behind, holding a glass of wine.

    Sorted!

Reminds me of North Korea's Propaganda Village.

I do think that second home owners should pay slightly higher council tax, but nowhere near 10%. Thats ridiculous.

I think overseas investment in London homes is quite interesting

Why are food vouchers a bad thing? At least that benefit money is more likely to be spent on food for the kids rather than ciggies, alcohol or drugs. If they want to spend it on that then having vouchers makes it harder.
  • By the way I've no shame in using my food vouchers that I get from surveys. Its free money & I'm thrilled to have some money off my shopping (although they are just £4)

so do you think the problem is caused, or partly caused by the care arrangements in recent years - care in the community only there is no community?

That and, more commonly, people trying to dodge care entirely. The humane part of care in the community was that it dramatically reduced the number of people that were forced to remain in hospital: being force fed drugs and treatments like ECT, abused in many cases and denied basic liberties such as stopping doctors chopping bits of their brains out!

It may not be very nice walking along Tottenham Court Road while a drunk screams at you I hope that's preferable to his brain being forcibly mutilated.

IME there aren't many people that want to drink or take drugs all day and sleep in a dumpster at night: generally they are trying to escape from something horrible.

... and the irony there is they can't afford the electricity for the lights any more!

The going rate in USA is about 70 cents to the $. Basically a win-win situation, because the poor get what they want, while the rich sleaze-merchants cream of a nice 30% to 'put back into the economy'.

Second time in less than a week that I'll say it...

You'd probably be happier living in a communist country.

i used to have school dinner vouchers growing up with a set value (50p i think it was), yes they had a stigma to them, but as it turned out i got fed every day.

Do we still have vouchers at school or has the PC brigade had away with them so as not to upset anybody who is seen as not as well off as somebody else?

How about banning the homeless from smoking, drinking, gambling or taking drugs and pay their benefits in specific vouchers for rent, bills, bus tickets to the job centre and food?

    Ridiculous suggestion???

    So is yours.
No. In fact damn good idea. Bring in the vouchers.
