Apprentice council tax

Hello.
Was just looking on my local council's website and it says that apprentices are exempt from council tax. I moved into my house about 6 months ago and my girlfriend moved in just after xmas, what should we be paying? Any ideas?

Cheers

Assuming your GF isn't also exempt you'd get the single persons discount ie 25% off

What about before she moved in? I was on a single persons discount then, is that the best I'm going to get?
Should I be able to claim this back? When I moved in and filled out the discount forms this apprentice discount wasn't on it (and still isn't).

25% is the best you'll get - before she moved in you were the sole occupant, now although two people live there, she is disregarded. Therefore you are the sole occupant for Council Tax purposes, hence the 25%.

You should be able able to get it backdated . when you complete the forms for an apprentice discount, they'll want the company to sign it, and will backdate the discount to that date.

shouldn't the time before his GF moved in be exempt as he was an apprentice which is the same as if a lone student was living in the property?

I read it as she was doing the apprenticeship. If he was doing the apprenticeship and he was living alone then he is entitled to a double disregard for the period before his girlfriend moved in , this gives a 50% discount - students aren't treated the same as apprentices for Council Tax.

Thanks guys, I'm the apprentice (for my sins). Would be nice to get a little money back from them. We pay £108 p/m for a band B house. What makes it feel worse is that the council never adopted the road so we (everyone in the street) pay a management company every month.
