Basically, you need to make a choice. Do you want a job that makes you money or a job that makes you happy?

10 years ago I walked out of a well paid graduate software developer job into working as an assistant manager in a small supermarket for half the money. My friends still don't understand this, but it's the best step I ever made. I make a fraction of what they do now, but I wake up in the morning/evening and go to a job I enjoy.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Boredom can be stressfull in itself and is not to be underestimated.
I would advise caution regarding getting a property when you feel as you do as you may then feel really trapped. You need to think about what you really want to do in the long term and make small goals towards getting there.
Whilst you are still there in the short term I would definatley think about moving within the organization. HR is quite interesting as your dealing with all sorts of staffing issues.I'd give this a shot if you have the option.
I dont think they would thank you for really telling them how you felt. Really if you take the money you have to put up and shut up.
I would probably go for careers coaching as well tohelp you sort out what you want to do.
Only you know how you feel and what you can put up with.If the thought of being there in that role for the next few years makes you feel ill then you really have to do something about it.
