Take pictures, write good descriptions, that should occupy you for a while.

Apologies if someone has already suggested this and I missed it

Oh...and it will top up the old JSA. Assuming you can earn an extra few bob this way whilst claiming JSA?

I'm rubbish when I'm unemployed, luckily that's not now. I usually spend the first day of unemployment having a rest, because I work contracts, some jobs can take a lot of time up. I usually tidy around the house when I'm unemployed though, and do batch cooking, and put extras in the freezer, so when I'm working again and can't be bothered cooking I have some good meals in the freezer.

Most of the day for me is usually taken up by putting on the music channels, whilst either updating CVs and applying for jobs or surfing the internet! I'm lucky in the fact that I never seem to be unemployed for long periods of time anymore. But I'm trying to move up the career ladder next job, which may mean being unemployed for a bit. Contract finishes in about a week!

    Starting to go spare.

I have already completed all the applications I can do today (only 2) wow the market has slowed - possibly before the christmas temp boom?

I have hit fly lady hard, I have gone to the lengths of taking down all my curtains, washing, ironing and re hanging.

However I have one highlight on the horizon - its Signing day so I can ask about training courses as there is a NVQ (job seeking relevant) that I would like to sign up for.

So fellow unemployed people, what do you guys do to improve your chances – what extra do you do? How do you structure your day?

When I was unemployed I was job hunting and only allowed myself about 2 hours down time each day. Morning was looking for jobs, and the afternoon I would adjust my CV/complete applications/write cover letters/emails.

After 2 months I had got most of the different application styles sorted so I went on a SAGE course, which I did 3 days a week. Still spent 4 hours a day on applications.

However I could easily fill up each day if I wasn't looking for a job - I can't wait to retire!
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Sambucus Nigra - I think you have hit the nail on the head.

If I was not frantically job searching I could fill my days very easily. Gardening, reading and going out and about. However this is not ‘free time’ I am being paid to seek a job.

But I feel guilty if not doing some form of Job seeking, being ready for an interview at the drop of a hat or away from email, phone so I can immediately respond to any enquiries.

After signing on today I am meeting a friend for coffee and then as I have no further applications I am going to sit in the sun and read a book..............just the thought alone is giving me the guilts! :D
