NI contributions from past job

Sorting through all my old pay slips a while ago I noticed something strange, and have, until now, brushed it under the carpet. About 10-years ago I was a Security Guard with a small company that I'm sure doesn't exist anymore, since SIA licencing was introduced (little did they know how farcicle the SIA would turn out to be I guess!). The company was to be honest, a bit dodgy, or appeared to be, and I was paid monthly, via bank transfer at 5pm on the 28th of each month....Unless the boss couldn't be bothered to pay her staff.

Anyway, I was young and not as savvy as I am now so didn't look at wage slips as much as I do now. So looking at all my wage slips I noticed that my NI number was listed as for example, JH 01 01 01 C (literally with all those '01's' just different at beginning and end letters). Now clearly, that's not my actual NI Number, and my actual one has been on all slips from other employers since. Should I be concerned, bearing in mind I was working there for 18-months? I had a nasty feeling she was declaring my NI contributions, but pocketing them herself. Does seem like a rather blatant way of doing it though, if she was! Thanks in advance for any help!

Try contacting the NI Contributions office and see if they can shine any light on whether they were getting your contributions or not

Thanks, I never knew that division existed!

Will give them a call....Don't want to end up paying money back, but I guess for 18-months worth it can only be so bad!

If you were employed (rather than self-employed) and you can show that your NI was deducted (via your payslips), then it won't be you who has to repay any shortfalls, AFAIK.

Thanks, that's good to know. I assumed it was the same as shortfalls in tax contributions, whereby as far as I'm aware, have to be met by the individual!
