    strange

two years ago they were rubbish houses incapable of making a decent home and needed to be knocked down, yet now they are going to be OK with a bit or work doing on them.

I think it is a good idea. Those homes never needed knocking down in the first place. Not sure how the finances work though, tax payers in effect buying people a private home.

Which another tax payer can buy..what is this about 'tax payers' phrase thrown about all the time..as if it is not allowed to be spent at all.

I herd all about this a while ago, but you have to live there for rs and not allowed to rent it out.

To pay a £1 I would hardly call buying. Its only a nominal value to satisfy law of transfer of ownership. In effect they are being given away. I will happily use the tax payer phrase, being a tax payer and living in demoncracy I feel I can give my opinion on where money is spent. I dont mean to sound rude with that comment but I find alot of public spending initiatives poorly thought through. I still think it is a good idea though.

Well you can rent it out after 5 years...also I think it is really aimed at local 'tax payers';) to 'purchase' it and the £30k loan to do it up with.

The council is going to replumb, refurbish and rewire them. It would be interesting to know what the "refurbish" bit of that means.

    plastering?

Sounds like the houses will be done up to the bare minimum to make them habitable.
  • So, in effect, Stoke on Trent council is giving away valuable assets [land - with building rights] for £1 each. I wonder what the rate payers think of that?

See you in the High Court........
