I've got a new job

I started job hunting around June as my college course was finishing then. I came on here asking for advice on my C.V and I made some changes, so it's obviously worked because I had 2 interviews last month and then this one. I'd also missed an interview while I was on holiday for 2 weeks earlier this month. So I just wanted to say thanks for the help from all those posters it's worked.

I start on Monday. I'm incredibly nervous, having been in the same job for 8 years. I just hope I'm not gonna be out of my league because it sounds really demanding.

Any advice for the first couple of days? Obviously I'll need to learn all their systems and way of doing things, I hope they'll know that.

    That's great news.

Can you recap, or link to the most useful CV advice you were given - it may be helpful for others who come across this thread and have CV queries.

Just ensure from the start you are clear on every process and never worry about asking if something's unclear. To start with they don't expect you to know the role (sometimes it's easy to say you understood something when you didn't totally and then it becomes harder as time passes to ask about the process again).
    Make notes.

A good employer normally loves lots of questions from a new starter as it shows their commitment to really getting to grips with the job.

And most jobs usually sound harder than they actually are before you start. You'll probably get to grips with it in no time - after all the employer has already demonstrated their confidence in you :)

The most important thing to find out on the first day is where the tea and coffee is and whether there are there free biscuits. :D

Well done on getting the job!
The most important thing to remember is that they're all just people like you...they all had first days once and they all asked what seem like stupid questions.
  • In the job you were in for 8 years, by the time you left I imagine you know the role inside and out and were confident doing it? But 8 years ago you had a first day there too.

I look forward to another post from you in a week or two, telling us that you love it there!

I was in the embarrassing situation once on a temp job of having to ask on day 3 where the toilets were......... Make sure you find this out fairly early on!

Good luck in your new job
