I think that it is highly unlikely that you will get any sponsorship to do a degree. There are post graduate courses but you should look into self funding options.
I would definitely use any project management parts of your current role to explain your desire to move into events management.

You should see if any assistant events management roles come up and in the meantime try to develop a portfolio of work done with plenty of photos.
